The fifth edition of the PartyPoker Premier League Poker will be presented in April as a World Poker Tour special event. The WPT Premier League V presented by PartyPoker.com will be held at the Montesino in Vienna from April 4 through 10, and features a $125,000 buy-in.

A number of pros have already confirmed their participation in the event including Vanessa Selbst, Sam Trickett, Tony G, Luke "FullFlush" Schwartz, and WPT Season IX Player of the Year and Premier League Mixed Game Championship winner Andy Frankenberger.

“I'm delighted to be taking the world's biggest and most entertaining TV tournament to Vienna and the prestigious Montesino Casino,” said Eddie Hearn, Managing Director of producers Matchroom Sport. “With a further buy-in increase, we expect the strongest field ever as poker’s greatest players gather to take down the WPT Premier League V title."

How does it work?

According to a release from PartyPoker, “Sixteen elite players will be split up into two groups of eight, each competing in four league matches showcasing the famous point system ($2,000 per point). The top three from each group will automatically go through to the final table, while the fourth and fifth seeds will square off in a series of heads up matches (best of three) for spots in the eight-handed finale. This year’s special event boasts a massive $200,000 added for the final table and awards the winner with entry into the $25,500 WPT World Championship, running May 19 to 26 at Bellagio in Las Vegas. Kara Scott will be covering the WPT Premier League V for television, as four hours of each heat will air initially in the U.K. on SkySports and then be distributed internationally.”

To make this happen, the WPT has shifted the WPT Vienna Main Event, which will now be held from April 10 through 15. Additionally, the PartyPoker.com Big Game VI will be held from April 11 through 13 and will be televised for 48-straight hours.

“We welcome the introduction of the televised WPT Premier League V and PartyPoker.com Big Game VI to the schedule,” said Leon Groenewoud, COO and Head of Events at Montesino, Vienna. “Coupled with WPT Vienna, these events will make Austria the hot bed of poker action during the first half of April.”
