PartyPoker World Open VI Dates Confirmed
PartyPoker.com and Matchroom Sport announced Wednesday that the PartyPoker World Open VI will take place Monday, September 6 through Friday, September 10 in London.
The prestigious poker event, which is in its sixth incarnation, will host 48 of the world's greatest poker players at the prestigious Palm Beach Casino in Mayfair, London. The event will follow the inaugural World Poker Tour London Poker Classic, which runs from August 29 through September 5. Among the early confirmations to play the event are Team PartyPoker members Mike Sexton, Tony G, Dragan Galic, Tyron Krost, Felipe Ramos, Ian Frazer, andGiovanni Safina, who finished third in the PartyPoker Premier League IV, earning himself a pro contract.
Phil Laak will also be in London to defend the title he won last year and said in a press release: “Last year was a wild rollercoaster ride. This year I am looking forward to coming back to defend my title – it is ideal that it comes straight off the back off the WPT London Poker Classic – hopefully I can win both!”
Laak bested a final table that featured Andy Black, Mike Sexton, Luke Schwartz, Bodo Sbrzesny, Austrian online qualifier Jan Veit and Jennifer Tilly. Laak will have to run the gauntlet to repeat, as Yevgeniy Timoshenko, Dave Ulliott, JP Kelly, Annette Obrestad, Sorel Mizzi, Roland de Wolfe, James Akenhead, Neil Channing, Praz Bansi, Schwartz and Tilly are all scheduled to attend.
The buy-in this year is $10,000, creating a $480,000 prize pool. Players will compete in eight-handed preliminary heats that will decided who moves on to the seven-handed final table. Last year, Matchroom gave players a triple-buy-in starting stack, which will be implemented again, according to the managing director of Matchroom Sport, Eddie Hearn. “London is the place to be for poker in the next few months and the PartyPoker.com World Open will feature the strongest line-up the capital will see. Once again, the tournament will boast its triple-stack format giving fans across the world the chance to see the world's leading players in full flow,” Hearn said.
In addition to the PartyPoker World Open VI and the WPT London Poker Classic, London will also be the home for the fourth World Series of Poker Europe in September, followed by the PokerStars European Poker Tour London, which gets underway in early October.
Although seats are not available online to the World Open VI, qualifiers are running daily for the WPT London Poker Classic, and you can win your seat by hitting the tables and signing up for a PartyPoker account today.
