Borgata East Coast Championship

The Borgata Spring Poker Open is in full swing, and yesterday marked the start of the $7,500 buy-in $500K Guaranteed East Coast Championship.

The event saw only 62 runners, creating a juicy overlay of over $50,000. Among those who made it to Day 2 were Gavin Smith (who ended the day as the chip leader), Sorel Mizzi, Lee Markholt, Cliff "JohnnyBax" Josephy, Dwyte Pilgrim, Eric Froehlich, Todd Terry, and Christian Harder.

Only the final table pays. They are scheduled to play to a champion tonight with the winner taking home $170,313.

Lemme Upgrade Ya

PokerStars has just rolled out a series of upgrades and improvements to its already stellar software.

Included in the updated are the addition of knockout tournaments in which players earn bounties by busting players, variations on buy-in amounts in ring games that allow players to play between 20-50 big blinds, 40-100 big blinds, and 100-250 bigblinds (with antes), heads-up ring game changes to protect players, gender-restricted tournaments, special multi-event satellites and more.

The PokerStars European Poker Tour heads to the Riveria tomorrow with the start of the PokerStars.it EPT San Remo.

It's the last leg of the EPT before the season six Grand Final in Monte Carlo, which begins on April 25. PokerNews, will be on hand in San Remo and Monte Carlo bringing up-to-the-minute updates, chip counts and video straight from the tournament floor.

Last year the massive 1,177 field was bested by 20-year-old student, Constant Rijkenbeg, who claimed the title and €1,508,000

ESPN Inside Deal

The Inside Deal crew hitchhiked down the road from their Bristol Conn., studios to Mohegan Sun to film their latest episode centered on the PokerStars.net North American Poker Tour.

The show welcomed soon-to-be High-Roller champ Jason Mercier as a co-host, and also had Main Event champ Vanessa Selbst on to discuss how important the win was for her, among other things.

ESPN Poker editor Andrew Feldman battled Chad Brown in a little series of three prop bets that included chip tossing, chip stacking, and card tossing. How'd it play out? You'll have to watch for yourself to find out.

A Howling Good Time

Professional poker players and local celebrities descended on the Venetian Tuesday for the 4th annual Jennifer Harman Charity tournament benefiting the Nevada Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

In attendance were celebrities Holly Madison, Robert Iler (AJ from The Sopranos), Louie Anderson and Carrot Top, poker pros Doyle Brunson, Howard Lederer, Marco Traniello, David Chictosky and Tiffany Michelle, Mindset coach Sam Chauhan, and MMA fighters Tyson Griffin and Roy Nelson among others.

Poker pro Chau Giang won the tournament and earned himself a 2010 World Series of Poker Main Event seat.
