If you are on the U.S. East Coast, consider heading to Borgata in Atlantic City to take a shot at riches and some World Poker Tour fame. The Borgata Poker Open is arguably the most popular poker tournament destination on the eastern seaboard thanks to the player-friendly structures and the sizable fields that are attracted to this Atlantic City series.

Wednesday's Poker Open debut (runs through Sept. 24, 2009) marked the seventh edition of this event and Borgata staffers couldn't be happier. "It’s great to see so many familiar faces taking to the felt,” said Ray Stefanelli, director of poker marketing for Borgata. “Borgata strives to provide the best tournaments in the industry. Consideration is always given to the players in terms of value, competition, and entertainment. We made this year’s televised championship event accessible to every player while maintaining our highest standards in structure and customer service."

With over 50 tournaments, something will suit just about every type of runner including no-limit, pot-limit Omaha Hi, Omaha Hi/Lo Eight, limit hold 'em, stud and H.O.S.E. events. If these are not enough, Borgata is also offering a Ladies Event, a deep-stack tournament, a heads-up double-elimination tournament and the highly anticipated $3,300 World Poker Tour championship event, which will be filmed for television. Although it offers the smallest buy-in on the WPT circuit, Borgata has taken steps to ensure a strong outing by guaranteeing a $2 million prize pool for the championship event.

As Wednesday's action got underway, a number of pros made their way to Borgata's Event Center floor. The $350 No-Limit tournament saw 850 players take to the felt hoping to drag their share of the $297,500 prize pool. Notable players seeing action included Eugene Todd, Mike "GoLeafsGoEh" Leah, Jason Young, Tony Salerno, Will "The Thrill" Faillla, Lacey Jones and Dale Pinchot.

For those looking to get in on the action, special room rates are available to tournament players: Sun - Thurs: $79, Fri: $169, Sat: $229. Call 1.866.MYBORGATA for more details.
