PokerStars EPT Monte Carlo Grand Final Set to Begin
One of the grandest fields in European poker history has descended upon Monte Carlo for action in the PokerStars European Poker Tour Season 5 Grand Final. Action begins at noon Monte Carlo time on Tuesday, with six full days of action from one of Europe’s most glamorous tourist destinations. Full live reporting coverage is available here throughout the week, including bonus coverage of the “high rollers” event May 1-3. The EPT will also serve its interactive feed at eptlive.com during the last two days of the Grand Final.
The EPT Season 3 Grand Final featured a breakout performance by Canadian Glen Chorny, who stormed through the final table en route to a €2,020,000 payday (nearly US $3.2 million), The then-22-year-old Chorny topped a final that included Denes Kalo, Michael Martin, Isaac Baron and eventual EPT Player of the Year Luca Pagano. This year the EPT estimates a total prize pool of more than €12,000,000 for the Grand Final, built in large part by the more than 400 players who qualified online at PokerStars.
The €25,000 “high rollers” event beginning on May 1st promises to draw its own stellar field, with the high-rollers events quickly establishing themselves as a staple at EPT stops.
Several members of Team PokerStars Pro will take part in the action at Monte Carlo. Among them is Isabelle Mercier, who took down the festive PokerStars Ante Up For Africa fundraiser Monday evening, helping generate more than €160,000 for relief efforts for war-torn Darfur in the process. Mercier topped soccer star Teddy Sheringham for the title.
