'durrrr Challenge' Update 13: Lead Swings Back to Dwan with $160,000 Win
It was a good Friday indeed when Tom "durrrr" Dwan and Patrik Antonius gave railbirds a treat by playing a rare daylight session of their $200/$400 pot-limit Omaha "durrrr Challenge" match. The online foes got in 803 hands over the space of two and a half hours, with Dwan finishing the session a $159,514 winner. In this session, Dwan went from an $81,452 loser to a $78,062 winner over the life of the challenge to date, with 10,953 hands logged out of the required 50,000.
Action got underway at about 3:15 p.m. EDT with both players buying in for $80,000 on each of the four tables, double the challenge minimum of $40,000. After twenty minutes of relatively quiet play, the first six-figure pot of the session started brewing on durrrr Challenge Table 4. Dwan limped in on the button (what?) and Antonius checked his option in the big blind. The flop came down A♣7♣2♦, Antonius leading out for $800. Dwan raised to $2,250 and Antonius came back over the top with a pot-sized reraised to $8,450. Dwan called and they went to the turn, the 5♦. Antonius took the lead again, betting $17,700 but Dwan wasn't going anywhere, re-potting to $70,800. Antonius called all in for $28,166, showing A♦7♠7♥2♥ for middle set, but Dwan had the lead with K♣4♦3♥2♣ for a wheel and the nut flush redraw. Antonius needed the board to pair, but it blanked out with the 10♥, Dwan dragging the $109,431 pot.
In their next major confrontation, about 45 minutes into the session, Antonius made a button raise to $1,200, Dwan popped it to $3,600 from the big blind and Antonius four-bet to $10,800. Dwan flat-called and they saw a Q♣J♣10♥ flop. Dwan check-raised all-in for $45,069 after Antonius bet $14,800 and the Finn made the call, rolling over A♥K♠J♠8♥ for the nut straight while Dwan hit top set with Q♥Q♦7♦7♣. Dwan needed to pair the board and got his wish when the 10♠ hit the turn, making him queens full. The river was the meaningless 6♦ and Dwan raked in his second six-figure pot of the session, at $111,737.
Dwan continued to run well in the big pots in this session, getting all in on the turn holding K♠J♣9♦5♠ for two pair and a flush draw on a board of K♣5♣2♠6♠ while Antonius had flopped a flush draw and turned a set and a straight draw with 8♣7♦6♥6♣. Though Antonius was nearly a 3-to-1 favorite, Dwan hit the 8♠ on the river to make a king-high flush, his good fortune resulting in a $155,584 pot. Dwan also took down the session's fourth and final $100,000-plus pot near the end of the match, kicking things off with a pre-flop raise to $1,200. Antonius three-bet to $3,600 and Dwan called. Antonius led out on the Q♥5♥4♠ flop, Dwan raised to $21,200, Antonius re-potted to $70,800, Dwan moved in for $79,183 and Antonius called the $2,778 balance. It was a set of queens for Dwan with A♦Q♦Q♣9♣ and a pair of fives and a straight draw for Antonius with 7♥6♦5♣3♣, the turn and river falling the 10♣ and the J♥ to send $154,357 Dwan's way.
At about 5:50 p.m. EDT Dwan decided to call it quits, much to Antonius' chagrin.
