FTOPS X, Event #1: 'davin77' Grabs Short-handed Win 0001

Full Tilt's FTOPS X series began yesterday in a big way. Event #1, a $200+16 NL hold'em 6-max tourney with $1,000,000 guaranteed, attracted 5,124 players for a total prize pool of $1,024,800. Some of the most well-known finishers falling short of the final table were Daniel "imabigkidnow" Kelly in seventh place ($19,778.64) and two-time FTOPS event winner Halfrek in ninth ($13,014.96). Other notables include dBrian "SN8WMAN" Hawkins in 44th ($1,885.63) and Cliff "JohnnyBax" Josephy in 86th place ($1,045.30).

Play progressed quickly for such a large field due in large part to blinds increasing every 12 minutes. Eight and a half hours after play began the final table was set. The chip counts at the final table began as follows:

SisterSue056 - 7,882,905

davin77 - 4,860,872

smoothustler - 4,142,237

FaGi - 3,815,010

AlwaysTrustMe - 2,769,532

Bog25 - 2,149,444

The first to head for the exit was FaGi at the 60,000/120,000/15,000 level. After losing a big pot to Bog25, FaGi was down to 521,010. Faced with the increasing blinds and antes, he made a stand with 2♦2♣ for his last 266,010. Bog25 and davin77 were involved in the hand, checking down the 5♦9♣Q♦9♠5♠ board. Bog25 showed 7♣7♠, good enough to win the pot and eliminate FaGi in sixth for $30,744. Out next at blinds and antes of 80,000/160,000/20,000 was AlwaysTrustMe. With a stack of 2,198,632, AlwaysTrustMe shoved from the small blind with K♣2♣ and was called by Bog25 in the big blind with A♠10♥. The board ran out 10♠5♥7♥4♦2♥ sending AlwaysTrustMe home in 5th for $45,091.20.

Hitting the rail next was SisterSue056. After losing a coin flip with 7♣7♠ against smoothustler's Q♠J♥, SisterSue056's last 1,100,338 was in the middle with K♠8♦ against davin77's K♥9♦. SisterSue056 couldn't catch up, finishing fourth for $61,488. A few hands later, smoothustler raised 930,000 on the button and was reraised all in by chip leader davin77. Smoothustler called and showed 4♦4♣ but was way behind davin77's Q♠Q♣. The board ran out 2♥3♣K♠A♥3♠ as smoothustler finished in third for $83,213.76.

It ended at the 120,000/240,000/30,000 level when Bog25 raised to 780,000 and davin77 pushed all in. Bog25 thought for a moment and then called all in with K♥Q♣, slightly trailing davin77's A♦7♠. The board came J♦9♥J♠7♣3♠ as Bog25 came up just short, finishing as the runner-up for $119,901.60. The winner for FTOPS X Event #1, collecting $195,757.30 in the process, was davin77.
