WSOPC Southern Indiana Day 1: The Kopacz and Kopacz Show
The newly remodeled Horseshoe Southern Indiana played host on Sunday to the start of this property's World Series of Poker Circuit Main Event, with 84 players putting up $5,150 to take their shots at the Circuit championship ring. Among the field were Circuit regulars Matt "mattster24" Sterling, Bryan "squirelly1" Sapp, Bernard Lee and defending champion Carlos Uz. Husband and wife team David and Stacy Kopacz found themselves together for much of the day, first at the same table, and at the end of the day among the chip leaders.
2007 champion Carlos Uz didn't fare as well, as his Main Event came to a sudden end before the dinner break. He lost a big portion of his stack when he ran into an opponent's pocket aces, then shoved K-10 all in preflop over the top of a raise and a reraise. One opponent folded, but the other tabled pocket kings, and Uz was out.
Circuit regular Bryan "squirelly1" Sapp spent much of the day accumulating chips, finishing among the biggest stacks. The one-time chip leader took out Matt "mattster24" Sterling when his pocket fours held up against Sterling's K♣Q♣, and sent several other opponents to the rail throughout Day 1. He took a hit to his stack late in the day, but still finished up with a top-ten stack.
David and Stacy Kopacz both played a tough, aggressive game on Day 1 to finish first and third in chips, respectively. Stacy moved to near the top of the leader board after she flopped bottom set with pocket deuces against an opponent's top pair, sending him to the rail. David picked up a big pot when his 10♥10♠ held up against an opponent's A♠K♠ on a board of 2♥2♠J♠7♦7♥. He finished the day as the lone player over 100,000 in chips.
Play halted for the day with 27 players remaining after Michael Zeljak went to the rail in 28th place. The top ten chip stacks looked like this at the end of Day 1:
