2008 WSOP Event #21, $5000 NLHE, Day 2: Seiver Has Healthy Lead for Final
Event #21 started with 731 players, which had been sliced down to just 121 by the end of Day 1 play. On Day 2, the field would break the money bubble at 72 players and establish its final table line-up. Prior to this event, Scott Seiver had five WSOP money finishes, including two already from the 2008 WSOP. Seiver just missed the final table in the 2008 $1,500 Pot Limit Hold'em event, finishing in 13th place. But Seiver made this final table with ease, and will have a sizable chip advantage going into the final table.

Day 2 still had to lose a sizable chunk of its field before the remaining 72 players could receive their payday. And there were many notable players lost on the way to bursting the money bubble. Howard Lederer, Gavin Smith, Huck Seed, Eric Lynch, Ralph Perry, Greg Mueller, Dustin "Neverwin" Woolf, Eric Hicks, and Layne Flack were among those that wee unable to parlay their Day 2 start to a money finish. Humberto Kim's A-K lost to Aaron Coulthard's A-Q when Coulthard caught a runner-runner for a Broadway straight. Kim's defeat was made all the more painful as it secured his place as bubble boy.
"Aussie Sarah" Bilney started the day with a short stack but was able to double up against Robert Zoellner early in the day. Bilney's J♦8♦ eventually found a straight on the river to overtake Zoellner's pocket threes. Bilney was able to sneak through the bubble but had to settle for a 61st-place finish. David Singer might have had the lead against Scott Freeman on the 10♥9♠4♥ flop, but Freeman had oh-so-many outs. Singer had A♠8♠ while Freeman had Q♥J♥ for both the flush and open-ended straight draw. The 9♥ turn sealed the hand for Freeman and Singer was eliminated in 58th place. And Steve Brecher's J-10 never caught up with Adam Levy's A-Q, sending Brecher home in 52nd place.
Alex Jacob's A-Q dominated Sam El Sayed's A-10 up until a ten hit the river, eliminating Jacob in 45th place. Anna Wroblewski also got in with the best of it with pocket kings against Cody Slaubaugh's A-J. The ace on the turn put Wroblewski out in 39th. Kathy Liebert has been a money machine since this 2008 WSOP began. Liebert chalked up her fourth money finish already this year. Liebert was finally eliminated in 24th place when her A-10 couldn't overcome Joe Monro's pocket sixes.
Eli Elezra's nice run was halted in its tracks when his pocket kings ran into Rajesh Vohra's pocket aces. Elezra finished in 20th place. Scott Seiver's run, however, continued. Eliminating many of his opponents on Day 2, Seiver added Humberto Brenes to the list. Brenes pushed in with A-2 and was called by Seiver's K-Q. A king on the flop significantly reduced Brenes' outs and the king on the river was just salt in the wound. Brenes was eliminated 14th place. Seiver would also see that Michael Mizrachi didn't make the final table. All the money went in on the 7-4-2 flop. Mizrachi had pocket tens for the overpair, but Seiver flopped a set of deuces. Mizrachi was eliminated in 11th place.
The final-table bubble burst with a classic race; it was Jorge Arias' pocket queens vs. David Seidman's A-K. Seidman had to wait until the river, but his king came, eliminating Arias in 10th place.
