Day 4 Completed
After five long days, the latest stop on Season 7 of the Australia New Zealand Poker Tour drew to a close on Monday evening at The Star Casino in New South Wales, Australia. In the end, it was Jim "The Doctor" Psaros who overcame a field of 445 entrants to be crowned champion.
Psaros, a 56-year-old Sydney local, is a Professor of Accounting at the University of Newcastle who previously had just $13,666 in tournament cashes to his name. With this victory, Psaros can now use his accounting expertise to add AU$183,000 to his poker record.
Psaros started the final table as the chip leader and never looked in danger all the way to the heads-up battle with Adelaide’s Emanuel "Curly" Seal.
Throughout the final table, however, it was Denis Sekuloski who looked the biggest threat. During the early stages of the day, Sekuloski played a part in the elimination of Chung Liew (9th), Tom Rafferty (7th), and Zhi Ma (6th).
While Sekuloski played table captain, Psaros had been building his stack at a steady pace until he looked down at the in the big blind when faced with an all-in shove from Li-ta Hsu with the . The pocket aces held up and with that, Hsu was eliminated in fifth place and Psaros once again found himself as the chip leader.
Seal had been relatively quiet up until this point, but ultimately picked up the pace when he eliminated Murray Roach in fourth place. Roach shoved all in from under the gun for around 15 big blinds holding the , and Seal made the call from the big blind with the . Seal's pair held up and so Roach was on the rail.
The remaining players opted to flatten the payouts a little when three-handed action began and it wasn't long after that when Sekuloski was eliminated in third place. Sekuloski ultimately got aggressive with the on the turn of a board and ran into Seal's for a flopped set of twos. No miracle on the river, and as per the revised prize pool structure, Sekulsoki pocketed AU$90,000.
Psaros began heads-up play with a slight chip advantage, but eventually the chips were even and that's when the two players opted to make a deal. It was an even chop of AU$175,000 each and that left AU$8,000 for the champion.
Following the deal, it would take just 30 minutes for Psaros to chip away at Seal and for the final hand of the tournament to play out, which you can read about in the live reporting blog below.

Congratulations to Psaros and thanks, as usual, to APPT President Danny McDonagh and Sam Dawson for another great event.
The next stop on Season 7 of the ANZPT is several months away with ANZPT Melbourne taking place at Crown Casino from October 8-20, 2015.
The next event for players in this region, however, will be APPT Macau, which runs from May 20-31. The PokerNews Live Reporting team will be on hand for both of these events, so be sure to return and find out who becomes the next poker champion from the Australasian region.
The final hand of the ANZPT Sydney has been dealt and the trophy will stay in the harbour city with Sydneysider Jim Psaros overcoming Emanuel Seal to claim the title.
Psaros limped the button for 200,000 and Seal checked as the flop was spread .
That was the trigger for Seal to declare himself all in!
Psaros threw his head back and asked for a count. It was 1.7 million in total and that was good enough for Psaros to announce a call.

It was hearts all around as Seal found himself needing to pair up to stay alive as Psaros showed a superior flush draw.
The turn was the and river the to leave Seal empty-handed as Psaros captured the title and post-deal prize of $183,000.
Seal, meanwhile, takes home $175,000 for his great effort.

Since doing the deal the two players have been trading chips back and forth. Jim Psaros has a slight edge at the moment and with the blinds now being upped to 100,000/200,000 there is likely to be a double up and climax to this event very soon.
One of the recent interesting hands that took place saw Psaros open the buton to 425,000. Emanuel Seal called and the two players then checked the flop. On the turn, Seal check-called a bet of 300,000 and a was dealt on the river. Seal checked for a third time and Psaros checked behind.
"Bet some time," Seal said as he flashed for a full house.

Emanuel Seal raised the button to 200,000 before Jim Psaros three-bet to 625,000 from the big blind, as he has done a number of times during this contest. This time Seal made the call and the flop landed .
Psaros checked and Seal declared himself all in. Psaros quickly let it go with chips recently traded, the stacks are still even.
With the chip stacks relatively even, the two players have agreed on a deal.
Both will be taking home $175,000 and are leaving $8,000 and the ANZPT trophy to the winner.
Jim Psaros has shown a big bluff to move the chips closer to even.
It started with Seal opening the button to 250,000. Sparos called and the dealer turned over a flop. Psaros checked here and Seal bet 300,000. Back on Psaros and he check-raised to 900,000. Seal made quite a quick call and the dealer turned over a turn. Both player checked here and a completed the board on the river.
At this point, Psaros moved all in for 2.5 million, which sent Seal into the tank.
Seal took a long time and eventually folded.
As Psaros raked his chips he showed for busted straight draw.
Seal then told the dealer to turn his cards over, seeming very keen to show Psaros what he folded. However, The Star TD told Seal that this wasn't allowed as they were already in the muck - even though they were still clearly identifiable... Just one of those rules here at this casino.

Psaros had Seal in bad shape and was two cards away from victory. At record speed the dealer whipped out the on the turn and then the on the river to stun everyone as Seal spiked his three-outer!
Seal threw his arms in the air as Psaros walked away from the table in disgust. Seal doubles up to 5.8 million with Psaros back to 3.1 million.
