Event #20: $1,500 Omaha Hi-Low 8-or-Better

Day 2 Completed

Beaudoin Leads the Way, Todd Brunson Fourth

Level 20 : 4,000/8,000, 0 ante
Dale Beaudoin
Dale Beaudoin

It was another action packed day here at the Rio as we saw 219 players get whittled down to just 22 by the end of Day 2 of Event #20 $1,500 Omaha Hi-Low 8-or-better. By the end of the night, Dale Beaudoin is looking down on everyone else with 465,000 chips. The only player within 100,000 of him is Jason Rivkin, who bagged up 418,000.

Of the 219 players who returned today, only 117 of them would make the money, meaning nearly half the players would be walking away empty handed. Amongst the players who ended up on that unfortunate list were Allyn Jaffrey Shulman, Nick Grippo, Eric Crain, Max Pescatori, Allen Kessler, Mike Sexton and recent bracelet winner Mike Matusow.

We had a handful of notables make the money, but fall short of making Day 3, including Barry Greenstein, Tom and Julie Schneider, Andy Frankenberger, Men Nguyen, Brian Hastings, Max Steinberg, David Chiu and John Racener, who both busted in the last half hour of the night.

Despite losing all those players, we still have a few familiar faces who will come back to vie for the title tomorrow. This list includes Can Kim Hua (327,000). Todd Brunson (315,000), John Monnette (188,000), Maria Ho (96,000) and Jennifer Harman (80,000).

The 22 players are off to get some much needed rest for what should be an exciting day tomorrow. They will be coming back to the Rio at 13:00 PST to decide who the next gold bracelet winner will be. Be sure to come back then for all the live updates. Until then, so long from Las Vegas!

Bagging & Tagging

Level 20 : 4,000/8,000, 0 ante

Time has run out here in Level 20 and the remaining players are now bagging and tagging their chips. We'll have full counts for you shortly, as well as a recap of Day 2 action. Stay tuned.

"Any Black Card. Any Low Card"

Chris Meyer

We didn't see the action until the river with a board reading {k-Spades}{7-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{10-Spades}{10-Diamonds}. Christopher Meyer got the last of his chips in on the flop, and Jason Rivkin and Dmitrii Valouev had created a side pot. The former bet the river and the latter folded.

Rivkin then tabled the {7-Hearts}{2-Spades}{q-Spades}{3-Hearts} for sevens and tens, and an astonished Meyer stared back at his own hand in disbelief. "Any black card. Any low card," he said before tabling the losing {a-Spades}{3-Spades}{4-Clubs}{9-Clubs}. Meyer continued to stare at the board mouth agape before finally taking his leave in 23rd place.

Racener Barely Misses Out on Day 3

Level 20 : 4,000/8,000, 0 ante

John Racener was down to his last 20,000, and after surviving one all in, he wasn't able to survive another. Action folded to Jason Rivkin on the button, and he put in a raise. Dao Bac called from the small blind, and Racener tagged along in the big. The flop came down {j-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{3-Clubs}, and Bac checked to Racener, who moved all in. Rivkin instantly announced raise, and after a few moments of thought, Back folded.

Rivkin: {a-Spades}{j-Spades}{q-Spades}{8-Diamonds}
Racener: {4-Hearts}{2-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{9-Spades}

Racener was looking for any low card to make get half the pot, and a four or a three would give him the full pot. However, the dealer put the {10-Hearts} on the turn, and the {9-Diamonds} on the river, which missed Racener's hand, ending his night.

Chiu Eliminated

Level 20 : 4,000/8,000, 0 ante
David Chiu
David Chiu

After working his stack back up to 80,000 or so, David Chiu raised to 16,000 under the gun and Sumanth Reddy opted to three-bet from the cutoff. Chiu called and then check-called bets on the {8-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{7-Spades} flop and {4-Diamonds} turn. When the {7-Hearts} completed the board on the river, Chiu checked for a third time and then folded when Reddy bet.

Chiu was eliminated from the tournament a short time late.

Mender Eliminated, Chiu Crippled

Level 20 : 4,000/8,000, 0 ante

Anthony Mender was all in for his last 3,000, and Won Goag raised it up to 16,000. David Chiu called on the button, as did Dao Bac in the small blind. The board ran down {6-Spades}{a-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{6-Hearts}, and Goag bet every step of the way. He was called by both Chiu and Bac until the river, where Chiu was the only caller.

Goag tabled {a-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{j-Spades}{k-Clubs} for sixes full, and everyone mucked their hand. Chiu was left with just 20,000 after that hand. Mender was eliminated in 26th place, and Max Steinberg was the first elimination of the final three tables, bowing out in 27th.
