After a swift four-and-a-half hours of final table action, we have a winner here at LAPT Punta del Este. Alex Komaromi, the lone Uruguayan to make the final table, has sealed it for the home country. With the victory, he is also the first Uruguayan to win a Latin American Poker Tour title.

The final table started smoothly for Komaromi as he stayed out of the way, letting second-in-chips Engelberth Varela take care of the first two players to fall, Rafael Monteiro and Fernando Arauja. With six players remaining, Komaromi began to run away with it. It started with eliminating Nelson Trad Neto in sixth place.

With {A-Hearts}{Q-Spades}, Neto was racing against Komaromi's {8-Hearts}{8-Clubs}. The board ran out {K-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{5-Spades}{8-Spades}{A-Spades}, giving Komaromi a turned set of eights to score the elimination. About ten minutes later, Komaromi's {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds} held against Felipe Pasini's {Q-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds} to leave only four players to vie for the title. Carlos Watanabe, who at no point had more than fifteen big blinds, bowed out in fourth place to Varela.

With three players left, Varela fell to Komaromi after calling all in on the river of a {A-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{Q-Spades}{5-Spades} board with {A-Diamonds}{6-Spades}. Komaromi had him out-kicked with {A-Clubs}{8-Clubs} to take more than a 9:1 chip lead into heads-up play. It was then when things got bumpy for the the Uruguayan. Claudio Piedrabuena proved to be a formidable opponent as two double ups later, it was the Argentinian with the chip lead.

The next hand, though, Komaromi took the lead back. With {A-Diamonds}{K-Spades}, he doubled against {A-Spades}{10-Hearts} when a king hit the flop to retake the big chip lead. It ended shortly thereafter at the 30,000/60,000/10,000 level. Komaromi opened to 150,000 on the button and Piedrabuena defended his big blind, landing a {K-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{4-Spades} flop to the middle of the felt. Both checked, leading to the {J-Clubs} turn. A check from Piedrabuena resulted in a bet of 225,000 from Komaromi. An all-in raise for about 1.3 million was Piedrabuena's last move of the tournament as Komaromi snap-called with {J-Hearts}{4-Hearts}. Piedrabuena had outs with {K-Clubs}{10-Clubs}, but the {2-Diamonds} was as harmless as can be for Komaromi.

Claudio Piedrabuena - 2nd Place
Claudio Piedrabuena - 2nd Place

From the button, Alex Komaromi raised to 150,000. Claudio Piedrabuena called out of the big blind and the flop came down {K-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{4-Spades}. Both players opted to check and head to fourth street, which produced the {J-Clubs}. After the turn, there was no more free cards.

First, Piedrabuena checked and then Komaromi fired 225,000. Piedrabuena check-raised all in for approximately 1.3 million. Komaromi made the call having turned two pair with the {J-Hearts}{4-Hearts}. Piedrabuena held top pair with the {K-Clubs}{10-Clubs} and was in need of some help on the river if he was going to double up and stay alive in the 2011 PokerStars.net LAPT Punta del Este Main Event.

The river card was dealt with the {2-Diamonds} and it failed to produce the help Piedrabuena needed. He was eliminated in second place for $141,220 while Komaromi was the last player left standing, the last Uruguayan left standing and all on his home turf.
