Koon was born in August, 1985 and studied for a Masters in Business Administration and Finance at West Virginia Wesleyan College in Buckhannon. After injury curtailed a promising athletics career, he began playing poker in 2006 while at university.

Jason Koon Poker History
Jason Koon's first recorded cash came back in 2008 and his first WSOP cashes came the following year. In 2010, Koon finished fourth in the WPT Festa al Lago for $225,680, the largest cash of his burgeoning career.
Koon narrowly missed out on his first WSOP bracelet in 2012, finishing second in the $3,000 No Limit Hold'em/Pot Limit Omaha heads-up event, with three more final table finishes the following year, including in the €25,600 WSOP Europe High Roller.

Masashi Oya Beats Jason Koon in WSOP Paradise $100,000 Ultra High Roller Championship
In 2013, Koon final-tabled the WPT Alpha8 in St Kitts, finishing fourth for $298,760 and won the L.A. Poker Classic $50,000 Turbo High Roller for $436,344 the following year.
In 2016, Koon won the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open Championship for $1,000,000, defeating close friend and former roommate Seth Davis heads-up.
"I feel fantastic," he told PokerNews. "I mean, it’s a great result, it’s a lot of money, and I got to play heads-up with my buddy … It’s a special moment."
This result saw Koon play more high roller and super high roller tournaments during the rest of 2016, with four six-figure scores in the second half of the year.
And things got even better in 2017, winning the PokerStars Championship $100,000 Super High Roller in the Bahamas for $1,650,300.
The largest cash of Koon's career came in May 2018, winning the Triton Poker Super High Roller Series HK$1,000,000 Short Deck in Montenegro for $3,469,836.
He followed this up with two more seven-figure scores, first winning the WPT Tournament of Champions $100,000 High Roller and then finishing third in the Super High Roller Bowl IV for $2,100,000.
Jason Koon's First WSOP Bracelet
Koon won his first WSOP bracelet in 2021, taking down the prestigious $25K Heads-Up Championship for $243,981.
"It’s one of those things when you’re on an airplane and a person is like, ‘Do you have a bracelet?’ I’m just like, ‘Nope.’ At least I can finally say yes to that," he told PokerNews. "I love coming here. I think I’ll play poker forever, and when it’s all said and done I think it’s inevitable I’ll have several of them."
Jason Koon's Triton Titles
Now a fixture in big buy-in tournaments, Koon would regularly travel to play in the Triton Poker Super High Roller Series, cashing in Jeju, South Korea, Budva, Montenegro and London, England, winning three titles in the two years leading up to the pandemic.
Since live poker returned, Koon has won seven more Triton titles, bringing his total to 10 -- five clear of his nearest rivals.

In November 2023, Koon was one of the first sixteen contestants on GGPoker's reality-TV show Game of Gold.
