Biography

Dario Sammartino is an Italian professional poker player who has more than $16.4 million in live poker tournament winnings and one World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet.

According to The Hendon Mob Database, Sammartino's first recorded live cash came in November 2008 in a €1,100 buy-in tournament in Egypt. Five months later, he banked his first five-figure prize, €16,700, his reward for a third-place finish in another Egyptian €1,100 No-Limit Hold'em tournament.

Sammartino first cashed in a WSOP event in 2011, finishing 207th in a $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em event for $3,088. It would not be the last time the Italian's name was found on a WSOP payout list.

He enjoyed his first live victory in April 2013, taking down a €5,250 buy-in Italian poker Tour event in Sanremo for €30,000. Five-figure scores became the norm from that point onwards.

At the 2014 WSOP, Sammartino finished sixth in the $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em 6-Handed event for $91,670.

Between 2015 and 2017, Sammartino won over $5.8 million from live events. Finishing fourth in a €100,000 Super High Roller for €709,500 and sixth in a €25,500 High Roller for €257,400 in the space of a few days at EPT Monte Carlo will do that to your earnings.

Sammartino bagged several six-figure prizes before a long overdue one million-plus score landed in his bankroll. He collected $1,608,295 for a third-place finish in the $111,111 High Roller for One Drop at the 2017 WSOP. Now, armed with a much larger bankroll, a glowing reputation, and bags of confidence, Sammartino became a regular in high-stakes events worldwide.

At the 2019 WSOP, after finishing third in the $10,000 H.O.R.S.E. Championship for $184,854, fourth in a $1,000 online event for $75,094, and ninth in the $50,000 Poker Players Championship for $93,764, Sammartino crashed out of the $10,000 WSOP Main Event in second place, a result worth a career-best $6 million.

More stellar results followed, including several WSOP final tables live and online. However, a bracelet always seemed to slip from his grasp. That was until Sammartino won the $2,500 Omaha/Stud Hi-Low 8 or Better at the 2024 WSOP, earning $222,703 and a long-awaited gold bracelet.

Sammartino has also won millions of dollars online, mostly under the alias "Secret_M0de." However, his online results are no longer tracked.
